Tips for writing your story

If you, or someone you care for, have lived experience of dementia we would love to share your experiences with others to ensure we reflect the needs of people living with dementia

It can help both you and the reader if you write and share your story about how you or someone you care for has been affected by dementia

Dementia Diversity would love to hear from you. You may want to share a poem or your personal story. Whatever it is that you want to contribute please share it with us and we will publish it on our website. Everyone’s story is different because everyone’s experience of living with dementia is different

You can describe your own personal experience however you like, there is no right or wrong way. Here are some tips that might help you:-

  • Don’t feel that you need to be a ‘writer’ just be yourself
  • It will make it easier to read if you use short words, sentences and paragraphs
  • It doesn’t have to be too long 400 to 700 words is about right
  • Good quality photos will bring your story to life. They can be old photos that are important to you or up to date
